Old Pueblo Playwrights, OPP, is a writers’ group that is geared for both beginners and experienced playwrights. The goal of Old Pueblo Playwrights is to help dramatists learn and succeed at their craft. We hold a New Play Festival every year to showcase the plays our members have been working on, sometimes through many rewrites and we occasionally hold other public performances as well. These staged readings are a valuable learning experience for everyone.
Taking New Plays to the stage for the first time!
Like all writers, playwrights tell stories. And those stories come from somewhere. Let’s call that somewhere the playwright’s inspiration. The inspiration comes long before the playwright even thinks about staging – the set, the costumes, the movement of the actors. The inspiration comes first.
But where does the inspiration come from?
Our major source of funding in prior years has been the Arizona Commission for the Arts, and that source is no longer as available. Our expenses are associated with rental, insurance, and a small stipend for local performers in the festival.
Our Weekly Meetings are open to the public. Feel free to join us Monday evenings at 7 p. m. either over Zoom or in person (every other week) at St Francis in the Foothills. Reach out to us if you are interested in the zoom link!
